15 Movies to watch in the Fall!

Here is my ultimate list of movies to watch in the fall! This list consist of 15 movies and excludes any Halloween movies (That list will come later), however, I couldn’t help myself and a few Halloween movies might have snuck onto this list…

  • You’ve Got Mail. Watching ‘you’ve got mail’ every fall is a tradition among the girls in my house. This is a sweet romance between struggling bookstore owner, Kathleen Kelly (Meg Ryan) and her new competition, Joe Fox (Tom Hanks, LOVE HIM!!!) and their anonymous Internet romance.
  • Penelope. I love this movie! It’s one of my comfort movies for any time of the year! Christina Ricci plays the character Penelope Wilhern, who was cursed with the snout of a pig and lives like a prisoner in her own home. Believing that the only way to break the curse is to marry one of her own kind (a blue-blood), she meets a number of suitors. In an attempt to revel her secret, two devious men hire a man (James McAvoy) to pose as a suitor, but complications arise when he begins to fall in love with Penelope, and she makes a bid for freedom.

  • Lost in Space. I talk abut this series all the time! This Netflix Original series takes place about 30 years in the future. The earth’s conditions are unsafe, so chosen people are being evacuated to a new planet called Alpha Centauri, (the new world). The series follows the Robinson family as they journey to this new world. But, the space station is attacked causing their space ship to crash on an unknown planet, where they discover a robot of alien origins. But, is it the robot they should be concerned about or one of their own?
  • Thumbelina. Thumbelina (played by Jodi Benson), who is only inches tall, is worried she’ll never meet someone her own size, until she happens to catch the eye of Prince Cornelius of the Fairies. However, just as things are going perfectly, she is kidnapped by Ms. Toad, who’s son is captivated by Thumbelina’s voice and beauty. Trials face Cornelius and Thumbelina as she escapes the toads and tries to find her way back home.

  • Planet of the Apes (original). This science-fiction classic is about three astronauts who crash on a futuristic planet where apes rule and humans are slaves. The astronauts suddenly find themselves part of a devalued species, trapped and imprisoned by the apes. This film stars Charlton Heston, Linda Harrison, and Roddy McDowall.
  • 9 (Nine). Okay, so this is a strange movie… let me figure out how to word it. So in the age where civilization is destroyed by technology, a man divides his soul (sound familiar?) into 9 dolls to be sure that life will go on. When 9 (Elijah Wood) awakes in this post-apocalyptic world he finds no life until he meets others like him. But when the machine is woken up the group will have to fight for survival. This movie is INCREDIBLE! Very thought provoking. It has been one of my favorite movies for many, many years.

  • Cinderella (Live action). The live action Cinderella is my favorite live action Disney film. I’m sure you know what Cinderella’s about. Lily James plays a young girl who is abused by her step mother (Cate Blanchett) and step sisters. She meets her fairy godmother (Helena Bonham Carter), who makes her dreams come tree. Ella attends the royal ball where she meets and falls in love with the prince. This isn’t the only Cinderella adaptation on this list, keep reading for more!
  • Coraline. Another fall movie tradition! While exploring her new home, Coraline (Dakota Fanning) discovers a secret door, behind which lies an alternate world that closely mirrors her own but, in many ways, is better. She rejoices in her discovery, until the Other Mother (Teri Hatcher) reviles her true colors. Will Coraline be able to make it back to her real family in the real world? This movie is based off of Neil Gaiman’s book, Coraline.

  • Harry Potter. weather you have seen the films or not I’m sure you are familiar with the series ‘Harry Potter.’ A young boy who lives with his abusive aunt and uncle finds out that he and his parents are wizards, and he is invited to attend Hogwarts, school of Witchcraft and Wizardry. But, there is a great evil awaiting him…
  • E.T. What would you do if you found an alien in your back yard?
E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982) - IMDb
  • The Lord of the Rings. I can’t go one post without talking about the Lord of the rings… These films are a complete masterpiece! And I am lucky enough to own the EXTENDED EDITION!!! The future of civilization rests in the fate of the One Ring, which has been lost for centuries. Powerful forces are unrelenting in their search for it. But fate has placed it in the hands of a young Hobbit named Frodo Baggins (Elijah Wood).
  • Alice in wonderland (Live Action). Here is Tim Burton’s take on a Disney classic staring Mia Wasikowska, Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway, and Alan Rickman.

  • Beetlejuice. After Barbara (Geena Davis) and Adam Maitland (Alec Baldwin) die in a car accident, they find themselves stuck haunting their country house, unable to leave. When the unbearable Deetzes (Catherine O’Hara and Jeffrey Jones) and their teen daughter Lydia (Winona Ryder) buy the home, the Maitlands attempt to scare them away without success. Their efforts attract Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton), a rambunctious spirit whose “help” quickly becomes dangerous.
  • A Cinderella Story. A modern take on the classic, staring Hilary Duff as Sam, a teenager in California who works as a waitress in her stepmother’s (Jennifer Coolidge) dinner. Sam begins an anonymous text-messaging and e-mail relationship with a boy. They agree to meet at a school dance, but when Sam finds out that her secret pen pal is none other than Austin Ames (Chad Michael Murray), the cutest boy in school, she panics and tries to find a way to tell him that his ‘Cinderella’ is no more than a waitress.

  • Pride and Prejudice (2005). Based off of Jane Austen’s beloved novel, Elizabeth Bennet (Keira Knightley) lives with her family in the English countryside. When she is introduced to the handsome and upper-class Mr. Darcy (Matthew MacFadyen), sparks fly. Although there is obvious chemistry between the two, Darcy’s overly reserved nature threatens the fledgling relationship.

And thus concludes this LONG list of movie I like to watch in the fall! And this is only a few! the list goes on and on, however, I didn’t think you would like to read an endless list of movies… If you liked this one then be on the look out for the complete Halloween watch-list coming soon!

Thanks a bunch!
